Brooklyn Historical Society Civil War IMAGES Brooklyn Township, Hennepin County, State of Minnesota: Brooklyn Park, Brooklyn Center |
The Minnesota Monument at the Jefferson Barracks Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri. Erected in 1922 by the State of Minnesota to the memory of 164 soldiers from our state who served the Union cause during the Civil War and whose remains are interred in the national cemetery. The figure is that of a woman, cast in bronze and holding a wreath in her hands in a pose with an expression of remebering their stories. During the war some 6,000 Minnesotans were on duty at one time or another in the lower Mississippi Valley, many passing through the city of St. Louis. |
