"Celebrating 40 Years of Excellence!"
Students created a display to celebrate the impact of the college on the community and its students.  On view now at the Hennepin History Museum which is a primary source of historical information on the County.  The Service Learning program at the college is an important partner where "service and learning equals success!"

Established in
1966, North Hennepin Community College (NHCC) is part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system.  NHCC is located in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota - a city in a rapidly growing area of the northwest metropolitan Twin Cities area.

NHCC is a comprehensive community college offering courses, programs and degrees designed for transfer to four-year institutions and immediate entry into the workforce.  The Center for Training and Development provides continuing education and customized training to more than 2,000 employees of area business.
We welcome Andy Franet as a volunteer under the Service Learning program at NHCC.  As a HISTORY student and a resident of Brooklyn Center, he'll worked on recording details on the many maps in our collection.  Thanks Andy!
If you're a student or staff member at NHCC and want to join our board or work on one of our many projects, we'd welcome you in whatever capacity you'd like to serve.  See our HOME page for contact information!
For the 1st semester in 2008, we have 3 Service Learning interns doing historical research, partly with the assistance of BHS.  Thanks to Rebecca Keniston, to Kris Hughes and Chris McDougall for the hours they're donating on various projects they've selected.

After teaming with SERVICE LEARNING in 2007, we look forward to an expanded program in 2008.  As part of an upcoing class for students working toward their HISTORY major, students will be able to choose one of many volunteering opportunities with the Brooklyn Historical Society.  The mission statement for the Service Learning program is "to connect students, faculty, and the community in a learning activity that blends classroom instruction, and civic responsibility in a spirit of mutual respect, comradery, and collaboration."
