| Our 2008 Fall Event was held at the Brookdale Library. Thanks! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| MAPS of the Brooklyn Township area were on display. Our collections date form the mid 1800's to modern day. Land Ownership maps are mostly in the range of 1865-1914. More of the Greatest Generation films of the Minnesota Historical Society were available for viewing to help celebrate the Sesquicentennial of both the State of Minnesota and our own Brooklyn Township as well! The second volume of "Patriots of Brooklyn" will be out soon and continues the reseach on the Civil War veterans from the area or those that settled here after the war years. The event was held on Saturday morning, November 15th, 2008. We'll see you in the spring of 2009! |

| The author traveled 38,000 miles and spent an estimated 5500 hours researching his new book, "Dakota Uprising Victims, Gravestones & Stories" and will speak about his findings and the background of this Civil War era event! His book contains photos of the gravestones or markers for all the victims he was ablt to located after a four year study of the subject. Accompanying each photo is the story of the victim. There are 91 gravestones or markers representing about 200 victims, at nearly 50 cemeteries or non-cemetery locations. Most of the gravestones or markers are of course in the area where the Uprising occurred. However, a number of them are in the Twin Cities Metro Area. One feature of the book is that it provides specific directions to the cemeteries and graves. This will enable those readers who so desire to see these historic markers for themselves. They will find in doing so that they have greatly enriched their experience. History will come alive for them! |
